Class 4 - Summer term may 2025
Welcome to Class 4! Mrs Chatburn is the Class Teacher, Mrs Slater, Miss Hurst, and Mrs Greaves will help the class out throughout the week.
Mrs Chatburn is the Class Teacher, supported by Miss Hurst. Mrs Slater covers the class on a Monday afternoon and Miss Greaves on a Thursday afternoon. You can contact Mrs Chatburn via ClassDojo, or through the office.
PE this half term is Swimming, which is on a Thursday, and Rounders on Fridays. PE kit
needs to be in school on Monday for the week.
Reading
We encourage your child to read for a minimum of 20 minutes, 4 nights a week. It is a good idea to encourage your child to read independently in order to develop a love of reading, but it is also still good for you to read to your child. Children have chosen books from our class library and they are able to take these books home, so long as they are returned to school. We will regularly discuss the books the children are reading – and the books we are reading ourselves. Guided Reading sessions take place in Class 4 four times weekly, and we will ensure children have access to a huge range of texts across the academic year.
Spellings
The children will have statutory spellings to practise. Time will also be allocated in class for spelling practice. Whilst some spelling tests will take place, we will generally practise spelling words in context and using the words to gain a better understanding of their meaning and spelling pattern. Spellings are set on purple mash on a Monday to be completed for Friday. Also, a paper copy is sent home for your child to learn on a Monday too.
Timestables
On TT Rockstars weekly timetable challenges are set on a Monday to be completed by Friday.
We are committed to helping your child make the most of their time in Class 4, with many exciting opportunities ahead. We have had an exceptional first half term, filled with engaging activities and remarkable progress. Class 4 has demonstrated enthusiasm and dedication across various subjects, showcasing their growth and commitment to learning.
As we move forward, we are excited to continue this journey of discovery and achievement, exploring new topics and embracing the opportunities that lie ahead.
RE
In Class 4, we take great pride in our child-led worship sessions. Each week, children collaborate in groups to plan and lead a worship experience for the class. Their responsibilities include selecting a Bible reading aligned with our weekly mission, leading prayers, and guiding reflections on the past week. This initiative fosters a sense of ownership and spiritual growth among the children, allowing them to actively contribute to our collective worship.
Maths
Meanwhile, take a look at what Class 4 has been up to! They've been learning outside the classroom, engaging in hands-on maths activities that connect classroom concepts with the natural world. These outdoor lessons are designed to make maths both fun and meaningful. It's a wonderful way to see how mathematical thinking applies beyond the classroom walls. Class 4 recently embarked on an exciting treasure hunt activity, converting fractions to decimals to work out the secret word. This engaging exercise not only reinforced their mathematical skills but also added an element of adventure to their learning experience.
PE
In PE, Class 4 has been enjoying learning how to play rounders on the field. This inclusive and engaging sport helps develop fundamental skills such as running, batting, throwing, and catching. Rounders is known for its emphasis on teamwork and fun, making it a great way for children to get active and build confidence.
English
In English, Class 4 participated in a conscience alley debate, exploring the complex character of Fagin from Oliver Twist. Class 4 took turns standing on either side of the "alley," voicing arguments for whether Fagin is a hero or a villain. This activity encouraged critical thinking and empathy, allowing students to delve deeper into character analysis and moral reasoning.
Science
In our recent science lessons, we've been exploring the concept of forces, with a particular focus on Sir Isaac Newton's contributions to physics. To deepen our understanding, we've been conducting experiments to investigate how different surfaces affect the forces involved in running. In these experiments, we kept the trainer constant while altering the surface, allowing us to observe how variations in surface texture and friction influence the forces at play. This approach ensured a fair test, enabling us to draw meaningful conclusions about the impact of surface properties on running dynamics.
We look forward to sharing more as the year continues.
